Eco, Refashion or Upcycling? 39 Terms & Definitions Behind DIY Sewing And Sustainable Fashion [Infographic]

By Mariana Kirova

When it comes to “eco”, “upcycled” or other sustainable phrases and terms, many need clarification.

For the last few years many words have penetrated the fashion professional & DIY sewing language. By extending their meaning, some became viable and significant, but others are on the way.

The DIY online clothing space and the eco fashion world have grown significantly last decade and this is only the spring of changing the modern fashion world as we know it. Today more and more designers, crafters and consumers are concerned about Earth’s limited resources and feel they can contribute and actively help.

The centuries old way to reuse materials and redo our clothing steps forward with a new perspective, known only to the dynamic modern world. The formed eco-mindset naturally reflects into the fashion professional and the DIY sewing tongue and insensibly changes it.

It is true though, along with being helpful and informative, terms, theories and definitions could be VERY boring! And I can see you’re nodding agreeably: “Yes, Mariana! Who likes plain text when Internet offers so much more…”

I agree. You are right. I’m nodding too;)

Hence, today's article couples important foundations with the interesting look of the infographics. Online sewing blogosphere can use infographics like many other fields do from quite awhile. Cute and funny, full of colour and character, infographics are great way to present visually any type of information while setting the mood and entertaining the eye of the reader.

Great infographics are those that you can scan and easily learn lots of beneficial information, pulled from different areas. If you are into blogging or just want to see what I mean, check this SEO Alphabet infographic by Senko Duras.

It is published on the famous Sue Anne’s website Successful Blogging, one of my favourite examples of simplicity & excellence in the blogging-about-blogging world.

I hope you’ll enjoy (and learn thing or two from) the Eco, Refashion or Upcycling? 39 Terms & Definitions Behind DIY Sewing And Sustainable Fashion infographic that I put together for you these days.

Well, enough with the boring text… Let’s get to the real thing;)
